Paul Rich
Dram Shop Expert
Paul Rich has over 15 years of consulting experience with on and off beverage premises, casinos, private clubs, liquor agencies, police departments, and insurance companies. He has completed dozens of consultations including management training, bar construction/set-up, bar menu, ordering, quality control, staff training, and creating risk management policies.
Paul’s past experience as a bartender coupled with his consulting expertise provided the foundation to create his certification program, S.M.A.R.T. (Servers & Management Alcohol Responsibility Training), which is a national certification course on the responsible service of alcohol. It includes training in alcohol information, intervention techniques, server responses, state liquor laws and reasonable efforts. Some of the specific information taught in S.M.A.R.T. Programs include: drink standardization, properly checking identifications, identifying signs of intoxication, observing behavioral changes, absorption rate factors and counting drinks. The program is available for participants to become certified trainers or certified servers and concludes with a certification test. Pertinent Liquor Statues and Regulations are taught as they apply to the establishments’ state. Paul has personally certified over 15,000 on and off premise servers, sellers, managers, security, casinos staff, owners, permittees, police officers, state liquor enforcement agencies, and non-industry community participants. S.M.A.R.T. Professional Bartending is a bartending program created for participants to become professional bartenders with dual certification in S.M.A.R.T. plus a Professional Bartending Certification.
